Implants are a popular option for patients seeking a permanent solution for tooth replacement. At Pena Adobe Dental Care we offer a few different options that are available to our patients. Our goal is to give patients the smile they have always wanted.
Traditional Dental Implants:
Traditional dental implants typically take multiple appointments across a few months. This type of implant is good for patients that have missing, broken, or cracked teeth. Implants are a two-step process, and the first step involves placing the implant in the patient’s jawbone. There is a healing period after this is done to give the implants time to fuse to the jawbone. This process is known as osseointegration.
As part of our evaluation we will ensure each patient has adequate bone in the jaw to support the implants. If needed, bone grafting can be done to give patients the bone required for the implants.
The healing process takes a few months, and this depends on each patient and the amount of implants that were placed. Once the healing period is complete, an abutment or connector is secured on top of the implants. This allows the crown or artificial tooth to connect and be secured on top. Custom crowns are used to match the patient’s natural teeth size, shape and color. Temporary crowns may be used while the patient waits for the permanent crown to be installed.
Implants are built to last upwards of 25 years or a lifetime if cared for properly. Practicing good oral hygiene and visiting our office regularly will help to keep your implants looking great. Overall the process for traditional dental implants can take four to six months from start to finish.
Teeth in a Day:
Another option offered at Pena Adobe Dental Care is Teeth in a Day or All on 4. The benefit of this type of implant is that they can be complete in just one appointment. With traditional dental implants multiple appointments are required, but with Teeth in a Day implants can be provided to patients in one day which makes this option attractive. Lab equipment is located directly in our office, and our doctors can place the implant while you are sedated and relaxed.
Teeth in a Day required four implants either at the top or bottom of the mouth. With this option, implants for each tooth are not needed. Temporary crowns are used with this option as well until permanent crowns can be installed.
